Presenting Lily Mars

This is a charming, but little known Garland film. With the possible exception of Meet Me in St Louis, I don't think Judy ever looked better on film. Van Heflin does a fine job as the the producer she pesters for a job and later, her romantic interest, and the supporting cast is excellent, including Douglas Croft as Judy's younger brother who has an obsession with doorknobs that pre-dates Marion Lorne's "Aunt Clara's" similar obsession on "Bewitched" by 20 years, and Annabelle Logan, the future "Annie Ross" of the revolutionary jazz group "Lambert Hendricks and Ross" as one of Judy's younger sisters. There's also attractive Hungarian soprano Marta Eggerth as Judy's romantic rival to satisfy semi-classical music fans.

Not a great movie, but a very likable one. Check it out if you get a chance.
