Pier's real 'torch'---James Dean!

Chicago American, Monday, September 25, 1961:

WALTER WINCHELL

. . . . People on the "Sodom and Gomorrah" set [in Rome] report that Pier
Angeli's "real torch" is not for ex-husband, Vic Damone, but for the late James Dean. They say she constantly reminisces "about their great love"--that she's never found any one like Dean--he was the only one that ever "really mattered," etc. . . . .

pier is a lair. she could get him but she wanted to get married with damone.
when the marriage with damone didn't work for her she "claimed " she only loved james dean
but in fact she had some love feelings for damone too ....that's why she
married him

reply

Agreed . . . she's must've been trying to play the femme fatale . . . doomed to never have the love of her life . . . to go on living in misery . . . I don't believe it, and they may not have even known each other that well . . . or she was just seeking some publicity . . .

reply

She was a young woman and very controlled by her mother.

reply

you still believe in santa claus don't you???
just go ahead and believe in her lies

reply

All she wanted was cheap publicity, after all her career was badly fading at this time . . . desperate . . . looking for any sort of attention . . .

reply

exactly

reply

What else did she have? Just fantasies of Dean . . .

reply

The maternal influence was really quite strong. One of the reason for this that that time Damone had already a secure existence but Dean didn't yet. And Pier knew it too. She wasn't brave enough. Rest of her life she was unhappy because of her bad marriage. Her and Dean's love toward each other is lost into the obscurity. We don't know how good or bad they would have lived together.

Never before or since... that's James Dean.
