Doris day looks a lot older than character age?

Just started watching and the Doris Day character is in pig tails and dressed as a young girl, but when I looked up date of film and her age it says she's about 30.

Or did women in their 30s dress and act like that in those days?

Oh, absolutely. Every single woman living "in those days" dressed and acted like that. All of them. No exceptions. All over the world.

___Very common, and no one then gave it the slightest notice. Though younger than Doris, Marilyn Monroe wore pig tails in The Misfits when she was 34 years old, her last film.
