One reason for Doris Oscar snub may be because of her close, long time associations with the right-wing nuttia: Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, the Bush family etc.

Well said. Besides, Honorary Oscars are just a way of the Academy saying..."Sorry we didn't think you were good enough to receive this back then, this will make up for it" lol. Ok not entirely true, but somewhat.

Her movie are classic and when she dated Ronald Reagan he was a democrat .

Cary Grant, Barbara Stanwyck, Greta Garbo, Danny Kaye, Charlie Chaplin, Henry Fonda (except he won for On Golden Pond...past his prime), Myrna Loy, Deborah Kerr, Kirk Douglas...and I could keep going, but all of these great actors and actresses won Honorary Oscars and I guess then their work would be considered outdated. The Honorary Oscar is the academy's way of apologizing for not giving them when they should have received them during their acting career. I think Doris Day is completely worthy of receiving an honorary Oscar and I think it is WAY over due. I don't think it has anything to do with her political view or friends. And I don't really get the Reagan thing; they dated for a short period and were in three movies together...
