Did Joan and Bette's competition start with 'Rain' & 'Of Human Bondage?'

Both were Maugham adaptations designed to show them off as "serious" actresses. Joan's came out first in late 1932 and flopped. Bette's came out the summer of '34 and made her a star. There's a lot more to it than that, so here's my backstory on "Rain" and "Of Human Bondage!"

That certainly was a great, quite entertaining reading. Thanks a lot for sharing!

Glad you liked it, watched both movies twice, and read up a lot on both productions...fun, but work! My next piece is going to be on Bette and Joan's memoirs, which came out the same year!
Here's my blog link, in general.
