Am I the only one who thinks he is aweful?

He was so damn greedy and constantly demanded way more money than any other actor in the film's he was in. For example, he got nearly twice as much as Hackman in superman. It was the most an actor had ever been paid at the time and he wasn't even in the movie very long.

Plus he never memorized his lines and always read the script on camera. He said it made him more believable but that sounds like another way of saying he was just lazy. I think anyone could conjure up the believableness of his characters if they had their lines in front of them 24/7.

He was mildly overrated, and I think that we are seeing it just based on the mere fact that even when I'm hanging with cinephiles in L.A. I rarely hear them discuss him.
But he was great anyway.
He was unfortunate enough to be in three great films and many other mediocre to fairly good ones.
Hell, Mark Wahlberg is a poor actor by almost anyone's metric, but even he has been in three great films. It's a rather tragic (bad) luck of the draw.
As many of you probably know, Orson Welles was Brando to the extreme in demanding huge sums of money for even cameos, but unlike Brando he spent it almost entirely on other projects that he rarely completed.

He sure was a strange fellow, wasn't he?!? I agree with you that he's a bit overrated, not awful in any sense of the word though. When he delivered, like in 'On The Waterfront' 'The Godfather' and 'Apocalypse Now', he was FANTASTIC. Absolutely out of this world. He had Screen Presence which can't be taught. In a strange comparison I use alot, hes like Arnold Schwarzenegger lol but a more of an ACTUAL actor. Arnold may not be looked at as a great actor but his PRESENCE is something that can never be ignored. He starred in some great films and when I watch them over and over, you see why he became the star he is...

Brando had it all. He was an a-hole but also a Huge Civil Rights Activist and you gotta Respect that, even if he was a Diva so to say. Regardless, when he hit a role, it was remarkable. And his presence on the films mentioned just carry so much. Even if just for 15 minutes like in Apocalypse Now. Without him, the journey just isn't the same

Im sure he was great when he was younger, but he added nothing to movies later in life.

Yes, He was great

He was sometimes great, sometimes hammy, and always overrated. I like Brando, but he wasn't The Alpha and Omega of All Acting.
