overrated?

Am I the only person who thinks Ms Bergman was a little overrated? She was certainly beautiful, and a good actress, but I never really saw a tremendous performance from her. I have seen most of her more widely recognized roles and she is good, but many posts here on IMDB make her one of the top actresses. I just don't see it.

Have you ever seen Autumn Sonata? Her performance in that movie was astonishing and heartwarming, almost painful to watch it easily rank among the very best performances of all time. Her multi-faceted performance in Europa '51 is also brillant.

These are two lesser known performances by Ingrid Bergman that are stunning.

Hey, I didn't realize you were the infallible acting judge of the world. Thank you for enlightening me with your objective evaluation of Ingrid Bergman's acting abilities. Clearly everyone who thinks she's brilliant is simply wrong for no other reason than because you say so.

I saw Autumn Sonata last night and WOW! I was blown away.

Ingmar Bergman, Ingrid Bergman and Liv Ullman! What a combo.

It's unpleasant to watch at times. It's just a little too raw. The daughter (Ullman) lets her mother (Bergman) have it! And Bergman just shows the pain and the guilt on her face and in every movement.

The other daughter was also incredible.

I hesitated to watch it because I don't always have good experiences with Ingmar Bergman's films made after the mid-1960s (except for The Magic Flute and Fanny and Alexander). I love the earlier films and I've seen a bunch of them. But I didn't like Persona or Hour of the Wolf.

I will definitely have to see more of the later films. I've never seen Cries and Whispers or Scenes from a Marriage.
