The age difference between her and Bogart was seriously

creepy. 27 years? And he was an old looking 46 too. I bet Lauren was passed around the rat pack like crazy. That's the way it was back then with those men. They did what they liked and if you were married to them and didn't like it then you were turfed out. If you played along and let the men do what they wanted then you had a chance of staying in the picture. All those romances like Johnny and June, Richard and Liz and even Joanne and Paul Newman were stock full of infidelity yet people love to say it was all true love and good clean romance.

just under 25 years, yes.

I was curious how the media handled the age difference. Today the age difference would get a lot of headlines.

The age difference was disturbing to say the least. I give Bogart a pass on it because his previous wives had all been within an acceptable age range. Bacall was a fluke. She always seemed far oldr than she was, with her "try hard" sexiness. Bogart was taken with it. Although they had been married for 13 years when he passed away, I don't believe the marriage would've lasted. He cheated on her left and right and had a long time affair with one of his secretaries/assistants. She cheated on him while he was dying from cancer. She supposedly cheated with Sinatra while Bogart was dying. It would not surprise me considering Sinatra idolized Bogart to the point of wanting to be Bogart.

I'm in full agreement with the OP about the myth making with "Johnny and June, Richard and Liz and Joanne and Paul Newman". For some reason, people have the need to believe in these myths. Paul Newman was thrown out of the house by Joanne for drinking excessively and cheating. Johnny cheated on June with her sister Anita, and Richard Burton was living with some black woman in Switzerland while he was still married to Liz. He also cheated with a myriad of other women while married to Liz. Bogart cheated on "Baby" (what he called Bacall) and "Baby" cheated on him while he was at his most vulnerable. The more I find out about Bacall, the less I like her. She was sort of a bitch.

The age difference was too much, and I wonder if Bacall was really attracted to Bogart, or if it was just a career move for her. She wasn't "passed around like crazy". Those women did what they wanted to, they weren't objects. Women like Gardner, Turner, and Lombard were especially ahead of their time, and did exactly what the men were doing, had their boy toys like the men had the flings, and made no apologies. Bacall though, seemed more in line with what women were expected to be back in those days, (sort of like Rita Hayworth) although she did have an affair with Sinatra.

She looked up to Bogie as a mentor.

Both Bogart and Sinatra were apparently very well endowed and that can overcome many deficiencies in a relationship.
