are antagonists who put on a facade more terrifying that straight up intimating antagonists

i'm thinking maybe rose and her dad make me feel more uncomfortable than rose's mom and brother who straight away seem intimating even if i alternative fan fiction in my head making rose seem complex

Yeah they are---that's already a known horror movie trope, and a good and scary one. The antagonists who put up a facade are simply more terrifying because they lull the protagonist into trusting them. Then that's when they finally drop the mask and began to show their true evil selves, lol.
