Is this movie any good?

I have seen Lion and La La Land and both movies were great. I want to see one more Best Picture nominees before the Academy Awards. Without any spoilers, I want to know what you all think of this film...

I liked it! If you like dramas set in 'the hood', go for it. I think it's a bit overrated, but it's still a fine film.

Manchester by the Sea is also a good slow drama. I really enjoyed it. I haven't seen Fences yet, so I don't have an opinion on it. There are other Academy Award best film contenders that are quite good too, and a bit more faster paced, like Hacksaw Ridge and Hell or High Water. These two were both great films.

It is an excellent film, even better than La La Land or Lion. The performances are great and it is well written. I enjoyed it and strongly recommend it to everyone. 9/10.

I have to say I wasn't impressed with La La Land. Haven't seen Lion yet.

I would give Moonlight 8/10
Manchester by Sea 8/10
Hacksaw Bridge 8/10
Hell or High Water 8/10
Silence 7/10
La La Land 6/10 (not a 'classic' by any means, The Artist was 100 times better)

Thanks for all who replied to my message.
Saw this movie tonight and I really liked it...!!!

Great! What would you give it out of 10?

reply

I would give it a 9.

reply

Wow, you must have really liked it! lol

Way way more than just "good".
One of the best drama films I've seen even in the last decade!
9.5/10
"La-la" is a fun movie, but very overrated IMO

Well it depends what you like. I would say it is OK. I actually fell asleep and thought it was a bit boring in the middle and is over-rated. But I understand its artistic merit and some of the scenes are pretty good (esp the beginning.) La La Land and Manchester by the Sea were both way better in my opinion. (they actually had something called humor and were not super boring that made me fall asleep.)

Basically be prepared for a very....slow....film without much humor and some silly casting decisions and not fully believable writing and directing. Its worth seeing for Marshala Ali and the beginning...but after 30 or 45 minutes it just becomes terribly boring and contrived and is over-rated overall.

It was a good movie. Up until the last like 30-45 minutes. It got boring to look at, very slow and I almost fell asleep. The rest of it I loved.
