Such an excellent film

Moonlight is one of the best films of 2016 and a must see. Fantastic performances from the entire cast and a wonderful screenplay. Top notch, beautiful, powerful, a cinematic wonder.

Chiron being single made perfect sense to me.

He did not like women AT ALL. Not in a sexual way. So how could he be with a guy if what we saw is Chiron getting his ass kicked throughout his childhood, being called a 'faggot', and then when he is a teenager and he finally finds someone who seems to be like him....only to get his arse kicked again, but this time in a brutal way?....Well, it's quite obvious that to survive he would have to hide away the real Chiron and just become 'Black', a tough black dude, a drug dealer/pusher, someone who people would be scared to mess with. Moving to Atlanta gave him that opportunity to have that new identity, even though he was not really being himself, because the real Chiron was a 'softie', a boy who craved love and a 'normal life'.

Ten years later, Kevin gets in contact with him and says 'sorry'. His mother also said 'sorry'. The film ending with Chiron on Kevin's shoulder, and then with the child Chiron, 'Little', under the moonlight looking back at us, the viewers, means that 'Black' is now dead, and he can start again.....he has found hope again, has got in touch with his real self again and he can let love in again. Maybe Kevin, maybe a new guy. No doubt Chiron will stop being a pusher and he will swim under the moonlight once more.

Thanks!

BTW I agree with you on what you said about Naomie Harris and Viola. Both wonderful actresses who deserve more recognition, especially Viola.

Not quite... I don't think it will be winning a single Oscar for anything important, as...its just lucky to even be nominated. It was kindof slow and boring, and the writing was not the greatest and the casting was not the most believable as well as problems with the directing overall. Basically an over-hyped film trying to fill the niche of the "African American" film for the year. It was OK, thats about. Ali should get he Oscar..and...thats it. Probably wins nothing else.

I disagree. Moonlight is a simple film with a simple story made with as much quality as any other Oscar contender.
All the characters were believable. Well maybe not Chiron's mother. In her introduction, she's wearing hospital scrubs as if she has a degree or certification and then a few scenes later, she is a strung out crackhead. That was the only part I felt was a little far fetched. Usually drug addicts succomb to some type of stressors so a little background about the mother would have improved the story in my opinion.

Otherwise, the film deserves all the critical praise it's gotten.
