Kong: Skull Island $60.1 million debut weekend

http://deadline.com/2017/03/kong-skull-island-beating-box-office-projections-logan-get-out-1202041809/

Good news is the film actually beat projections by 33%, or $11 million over what was expected. It seems to be trending favorably on social media as well. No one is saying this is the new Legend of Tarzan.

Bad monkey news, though, is that the budget for this Kong movie was monstrous: $185 million + $135 million for global marketing (print & ads).

HollywoodReporter says this movie needs to scare up $500-$600 million worldwide (at least) to begin to break even. One of the biggest obstacles next weekend is Beauty & the Beast, which is going to set multiple March records (likely committing all acts of Box Office murder), and possibly making Kong: Skull Island see a significant 2nd weekend drop.

Pray for Kong. 🙈🐵

As of today it has made 535.7 million USD.

I guess that would put them around the breaking even point. For a setup film they might have somewhat succeeded, but the studio was probably looking for a bigger box office return on this one.

Kong is Officially a Success

NOt A SMASH HIT...I'm sure WB isn't going to make a ton of profit, But Kong has proformed more than well enough to warrant a sequel

Its at 552 Million right now, thats more than King Kong(2005) and Godzilla(2014)....and most importantly Its Gross in China has Been HUGE...

KOng has also had above average Holds Domestically...after Opening to ONLY 50 Million +....It wasn't a guarantee Kong would even get to 150 Million domestically...But it has and it really has had pretty good holds.

Given Kongs, 160 Million + domestic Gross, Kong Massive Gross In China and A total Gross which will probably be around 575 Million...WB has every reason to go forward with a Sequel and Their "Kong/Godzilla Universe."

again I dont think WB is making A Massive Profit from Kong, but Its preformed Well All around and WB has every reason to expect A Sequel Will perform similar, CHINA was HUGE, WB knowing that Kong is a 150 to 200 Million dollar earner in China is HUGE for a Sequel.

I'm actually kinda surprised KONG ended up making as much as it did....after Opening Weekend, Kongs prospects of getting to that 500-600 Million dollar Breakeven point wasn't looking good..but It made it

It's a hit and it's a good thing too because Warner's has a whole series of movies planned for this, first with a new Godzilla and then a Godzilla vs. Kong. But I think they knew there would be interest in this since Godzilla did fairly well in 2014.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. A review of the movie here- https://youtu.be/g8hwq5Xx-_E
