It is.

But it fails in the storytelling department. We never quite fell the mystery around the island, I think. We never quite connect with the characters or really care too much for them (except perhaps for Hank Marlow). And although we want Kong to live, I dare say the movie is far from those connections to him that we experienced in the other Kong movies.... even then one from 1976.

It shows us monsters, and fantastic settings and even a huge King Kong. And this alone is worth a ticket to me, but it fails really where the others succeeded: The one reason why King Kong for 1933 still rocks, is how we connected with the beauty and the beast.
