Box Office

People were worried that Moana would not be a hit but it's made nearly $600 million and it just opened in Japan a few days ago. You can't expect every film to be as successful as Frozen and Zootopia and it looks like Moana's box office is pretty respectable. Guess the Disney revival era isn't quite over yet.

Hi Earl!

If you meant some of the old posters here, half of them were not really sincere… especially the ones like QueenFanUSA, Syrngfsse2, and seizeethat. Those guys were just trolls trying to stir up unnecessary drama. They were doing that a lot on the old forum since October.

In reality, Moana is still a successful movie and did pretty well for its run. Sure, its return wasn’t on par with Frozen and Zootopia, but that’s because those movies haven’t dealt with heavier competition over the holidays, or Star Wars. It’s that plain and simple. Even the company knew they had a lot on their plate when they decided to distribute this along with the MCU, Star Wars movies, and such. Moana did fine overall in its circumstances and Disney wasn't going to loss sleep over it. ;-) I think Disney is still on the role in their new era. I hope it does well in Japan.

Moana had a net profit of about $121 million after it's all said and done. BvS and Doctor Strange had a similar net profit.
Bad for BvS, respectable for Doctor Strange, and decent for Moana (but also could've been better).

It may bother some to know the Minions movie had a net profit of over $500 million.
Moana was a good movie. Not quite my favorite of the recent Disney movies. The middle parts started to lose some momentum for me. I think some of the deleted scenes like Maui teaching Moana how to fish should've been kept in.

Minions movies are better than Moana, according to my 4yo kid.
