Before the show aired on Amazon, who did you liken Bosch most to?

Before I say anything, I will concede that Titus Welliver plays an excellent Bosch. Before the show however, I had a very different picture of Bosch in my head. He was a lot stronger than T.W. and frankly, more handsome considering the kind of women he was able to get with over the years. He got every woman he desired. That only happens to very attractive people. There were also a lot of scenes in the books that played on Bosch's physical strength and T.W really doesn't look as strong. At least not as strong as the books implied.

Perhaps because I was watching The Wire when I started reading the books, perhaps because they actually play very similar characters.. I always imagined Bosch to look like Dominic West or as he is best known, Detective McNulty.

I think he would've made an absolutely perfect Bosch. They both make leaps in their theories, very intelligent, definitely driven, and do not respond well to authority at all. They even dress the same, and use similar language Their partners, both Bunk (from The Wire) and Edgar, are African American and are on the surface very similar characters.. In fact, for some time I honestly believed that McNulty was based on Bosch.

Here's a picture for those not familiar with Det. McNulty:

Im just happy he's played by an american and not a british or australian *beep* who tend to steal all our characters these days.

reply

well, so basically you think everyone working on american movies and TV shows should be only american people? wow, guess I know who're voting for this year.

reply

Lmfao...yep - he's a trump supporter through and through lol...Loved this comment - spot on

Why shouldn't they?

American *beep* - as you put it - have been doing it to other nationalities for years.

do not knock the Australians, they are talented hard working film crews, hired by AMERICAN producers in the USA and in Australia which is where most of the big budget films are shot. Think before you react or at least do some research before you make inane comments.

Character's Physical Appearance
Bosch stands a few inches short of six feet and is described as wiry. His muscles are like nylon cords, strength concealed by economy of scale. He has a moustache and has brown hair that is by now graying (The Black Echo). Bosch's eyes are the other key aspect of his appearance; they are brown and nearly black, and were mentioned often for this reason in A Darkness More Than Night. Connelly gives a good clue as to how he visualizes Bosch when, in The Overlook, Rachel Walling tells Bosch that "You look like House" (actor Hugh Laurie).

You don't think Titus is handsome? I totally disagree with that. I think he's much better looking when he lets his hair grow out a little rather than with a buzz cut. But he's very handsome and has a lot of charisma.

I also think that he's very strong/tough looking. You can see he works out quite a bit.

hes def very masculine which is certainly sexy

When reading the novels I always pictured Paul Newman. Newman had this kind of swagger that said "up yours" when it came to doing the right thing.....

I'm with you that I always saw him as stockier, even though a Vietnam tunnel rat ought to be thin.

I pictured a thinner Raymond Burr, but your suggestion of West works visually too.

But since TW is one of my favorite actors so picture me happy.

reply

When reading the books I pictured Kirk Russell. That was way back.

reply

You mean Kurt Russell, right? I thought maybe there was a new actor but a search came up null.

reply

Hahaha typing in a hurry. Yes, Kurt. Kurt.

I never read the books, from your description of the book the character is more handsome than what T.W. is portraying. I think he does a good job and he has a very appealing look to him. I think Jon Hamm would had been a good option as well. He could have pulled of that Mad Man charm. Jim Caviezel could have pulled it off. I dont mind British or Australian actors doing a North American character either.

Ray Liotta

reply

Yes, a beefed-up Ray Liotta would be a perfect Bosch.
