Open Carry

Just watched the two seasons, loved it. Not being from the US, I am curious: Do detectives really open carry like Bosch does? Even with the badge on his belt, wouldn't people be alarmed, as open carry is not allowed in L.A.?

All poliemen carry gunz in this country, it is a mad max hellscape here, plz help

(I know I did a goofy tone there, but for real though, all our cops have guns on them all the time, like Spandau Balley, I know this much is true)

Civilians can open carry in most states... I don't think it's a smart idea, I think most cops feel the same way when they're off duty. But it's kinda routine to see people armed in this country, so some cops do, especially when it's hot as crap out.

L.A. is a hellhole infested by armed gangstas. Cops have to be armed or die.

He's not undercover, so badge on belt = OC AOK, even in PRK. No badge necessary in free states; some OC, and some CC.

Off duty cops in U.S. are expected in a lot of jurisdictions to carry discreetly, which I've seen them do in covered holsters. The reason used to be (i don't know if it's still true) that as a sworn officer you are never off duty. So, you are expected to respond if there is a criminal incident, especially with shots fired, etc.
