Screwing with Mike?

The baddies replaced the battery in what they thought was their transmitter, and when it didn't register on their tracker, they must have figured out that Mike had swapped transmitters and then used that to lead him on a wild goose chase.

They will find out that it's not healthy to screw with Mike.
