Gus

I am amazed that I know exactly what's going to happen with Gus and Saul, yet I was still fearful for what would happen to Saul when he was doing his clumsy surveillance in the middle of Pollos Hermanos.

Good episode, surprised that Kim took that revelation so well.

How do you think the backpack guy was tipped off?
I let out a little squeal when I saw Gus wiping tables in the background.

reply

If Gus was watching from his cameras in the back, he could easily see Saul staring at everyone as they came into his place. It was obvious that he was looking for someone, and while everyone else seemed to be eating, talking like normal people... Saul looked like a stalker.

reply

oh yes I forgot about the cameras and his laptop

reply

I forgot about that too. I've probably forgotten many little details from Breaking Bad so many years ago. if I had time I would binge the whole series again before the new season of Saul starts back up. But there are so many new things I want to watch!

reply

Well, Kim already knew. She hit Saul when Chuck first said it and she said she didn't want to ever talk about it. So, she didn't want to know, but deep down she knew. So once it came out from Ernesto, she had no choice but to accept it and deal with it. She wouldn't have been really surprised.

I meant that it still seems that it would be a blow that he turned a my word vs. his word situation into concrete evidence. The whole point I guess was to point out that Jimmy thought there was some good in Chuck and that Jimmy's achilles' heel continues to be his belief that his brother might care for him more than the law, but I think that finally killed off any remaining strands of trust. That's why Jimmy was so shaken... Chuck looks at it like a Spy vs. Spy rivalry... while Jimmy up to that point viewed him more as his brother.

reply

Ah, I see what you mean. I completely agree.

reply

I love that their first conversation ever, begins with Jimmy literally with his head in a garbage can.

reply

It annoyed me how clumsy Jimmy was, but then one has to remember that it was impossible for him to know how paranoid and thorough Gus was. By the way, why did Gus have a reaction to sound of Jimmy's car... had he heard that somewhere before?

reply

I don't think he recognized the sound of the particular car, but I think he knew Jimmy and Mike were out there, and he was merely noticing that one of them had left. It's showing that Gus knew something was up.

Also, I enjoy how knowing what we know, everything Gus says carries ominous overtones: "If it's in there, I'll find it..."

reply

It's also amazing how Gus not only is a drug lord, but also the most efficient fast food manager one could possibly imagine. "Can I get you some alcohol wipes?". If I ever saw a fast food joint run that well in real life, I'd now be convinced they were running an international meth organization.

I still wonder about his reaction to the sound... but maybe it's setting up a future scene where he will hear that and immediately be alerted to be on guard.

reply

Gus totally knew that Saul was looking around the place, it's going to be fun to see Gus' response to this--that concerned look he had was pure Breaking Bad Gus. :)

reply

Yep, Giancarlo Esposito slipped effortlessly back into character. It's nice when a show doesn't wait too long for a reboot where they have to resort to CGI to restore someone's appearance.
