My thoughts on Emma Watson as Belle

I literally thought that Anne Hathaway would be Belle in the live action version of Beauty & The Beast. I hope Emma Watson will do this one justice.

I grew up watching Emma Watson in the Harry Potter movies from 2001 to 2012 so seeing her play my favourite princess in Beauty & The Beast its gonna be interesting.

I really thought so too and if Anne were Belle, her prince would be Josh Groban and Gaston would be Hugh Jackman!

It's clear that Disney hired Emma Watson to scoop up existing fantasy fans who are already her fans because of Harry Potter. Not a crime, but I feel Disney should have hired an actual French actress, not just a well known actress already bringing a fan base with her name recognition. I don't care if she was born in France.

reply

Not only that they are trying to give her a career boost imo. She did not do much since HP. I don't think any of the HP actors really found the same amount of fame after HP ended for them. Dan kinda did some stuff. Rupert did some movies. Emma just seems to be cast for her appearance...that's it, she can't really act imo.

Agreed. I think that's the reason why Watson was chosen and frankly, she was a too conventional choice.

reply

I think they should have used an older actress for Belle, Emma just doesn't suit the role IMO.

reply

I agree!

reply

An older actress? Emma is nearly 27 playing a 17 year old.

reply

But she looks way younger than her age.

reply

I thought she looked old actually, at her age she has lost her facial baby fat/bloom & she had a lot of wrinkles on her forehead.

reply

Sure, but she still looks young.

reply

I didn't think she looked young though.

reply

OK, we can agree to disagree, then :)

reply

Lol. I'm watching this film right now for the first time and it really does pale in comparison to the 1991 version. I have that animated film memorized.

reply

and the point of placing your response here is...?

reply

If you can't figure that out, then I can't help you.

reply

ok. cause it would made more sense to post it somewhere else.

Going back to what the Harry Potter stars are doing after Harry Potter. Dan has actually thrown himself into some really challenging characters in indie films and doing a great job with them. One called Swiss Army Man that came out last year was a treasure of quirky originality.

I'm trying to go for an engaging, funny youtube channel so, if you have the time, take a look. Hope you enjoy what you see. Thanks in advance. A review of Beauty here-https://youtu.be/AD4MjlFtI4k

why are u replyin' me?? i never cited this!

reply

Posting on a different board I guess makes more sense to you than me. But I can't be bothered if that's your opinion on things.

reply

Agreed. The animated Belle looks way older than Emma does.

reply

I honestly am fine with it... I mean, perhaps there could have been better choices, but I don't see a problem with Emma Watson. Hermione and Belle are both bookish young women, so that helps, I suppose.

reply

I also think Anne Hathaway was a perfect fit for Belle but from what I've seen in the trailers I think Emma Watson is good too. I can't wait to see it.

reply

I'm not a fan of Watson, though I wish her no ill will. She was an adorable kid and a perfect fit for the Potter franchise. But she's grown up into a rather plain girl lacking that star factor. She's pretty in that boyish British sort of way. I'm not impressed by her singing. It is what it is. As for Hathaway, she's almost aged out of the game. Ha, that sounds horrible but it's true. Emma is almost ten years younger than her. And they are definitely hoping to usher in her pre-existing enormous fanbase. It's smart casting.

Emmy Rossum would have been perfect

reply

Just watched the movie and sometimes kept imagining Emmy as Belle instead and even mimicked her singing along whenever Emma sang!

reply

Emmy would have been wonderful.

reply

Yeah and then my thoughts switched to mentally inserting Anne Hathaway into the picture and she would have been styled the way the animated film made Belle look!
