One thing I LIKE (from the preview)

Is that it is NOT just a scene for scene remake of the original. Sometimes remakes are the EXACT SAME STORY THE EXACT SAME LINES JUST DIFFERENT ACTORS. I like that the story is more sophisticated and addresses some modern sociological problems.

For example in the original they just picked a bank to rob because they wanted the money but this movie is addressing how corrupt the banks have become and they are robbing the bank as revenge for the bank screwing them over, it makes what they do more morally justified and makes me especially want to root for them. I am sure banks were corrupt back in 1979 when the original version of this was filmed but that movie did not really address it.

In the original they just wanted a lot of money so they could really enjoy their last few years of life. In this they are getting a justified revenge and they even said that any money beyond what the banks unfairly screwed them out of would go to charity. The original gang were not so altruistic.

I like it when a remake addresses modern social trends and makes a story a little more sophisticated than the original did. This might actually be a better movie than the original and that is rare for remakes.

I think making the bank a more specific part of the plot, takes away from a characters' plight. Hollywood just can't seem to manage character driven comedy/dramas anymore. Everything has to be justified by the plot, rather than the characters being justified by themselves. I suppose you could look at the characters in the original as being selfish, but in the real world people often are.

I disagree, I think it ADDS to the character's plight. It makes them especially sympathetic and relatable. They have been unfairly screwed over and you really feel sorry for them unlike the original. In the original they were not impoverished or particularly screwed over like in this version. It does NOT mean that the movie will not also cover some sad or touching personal issues, the movie is a DRAMEDY. A comedy that also is kind of sad.

I hope they do not all die. In the original the deaths felt forced. The opposite happens with old age movies as happens with "teen" movies. In "teen" movies the actors are often in their 20s or even 30 and the actors in old people movies are often 15 or 20 years younger than their characters. You don't want them to die during filming and very old people lack the energy necessary for an acting job maybe.

In the original the actors died several years after the movie was filmed and none of them looked old enough to die of old age, Hell George Burns died about 17 years after that movie was filmed.

I hope they are all alive at the end of the film.
