I dunno, I just find it hard to believe this was a normal thing even in that place and time. It's normal for parents to set their kids up but it's just usually one potential partner at a time, not all lined up like a game show. That seems super awkward for both their child and for the 3 potential partners.

It didn't work so well though, did it? It was too obvious and Oleg just walked out. Maybe for a person who had told their parents they wanted to get married, it might be efficient.
But for a skittish brooding person like Oleg, it just turns them off to be treated like the prize on a game show. He needs a more subtle approach. not lining up the girls like hookers and saying "pick one".
