Okay, she's good at making goofy faces sometimes, but really, she's not that ugly and has a pretty good body. She's actually pretty good looking sometimes when she isn't wearing the dowdy clothes and tons of makeup. She might not be my first choice for a date, but I'd give her a shot and see how her personality held up.
If they were going for an ugly actress that few would want they should have gone much uglier than her.
The anti-Martha folks are missing the entire point of Martha. Martha played a vital role that was absolutely necessary for Philip.
To begin with, despite what he tells Elizabeth, there was a certain relaxed feeling Philip had with her that he never has had with Elizabeth. Think back to Season 1 when they're laying in bed and he says how much he hates his job and wants out. He's not talking about his fake government job, but his real one. He has told this to Elizabeth, but she either tells on him or gets angry.
Martha is an intelligent woman. She's no idiot and she's proof that nearly ANYONE can be fooled by someone. She shows us how believable Philip is. She's no fool.
She hot in bed too. Elizabeth cannot give him hot sex. She's incapable of it, but Martha can.

The only time I can remember her asking him to stop is when they were being too rough and it triggered memories of her rape. But they moved past that ages ago.

We've already seen them keep Nina's character going when clearly there was no place left for the character to go, surely they wouldn't do the same with Martha.
I think she's very pretty. She just has a very perky personality that can either be sweet or annoying at times. She's pretty naive too.
I don't know if i'd do the same since she clearly has low self-esteem issues and seems very needy. She strikes me as the type to have a complete mental break down if you so much as look at another woman and would probably set you on fire while sleeping for it.
Phillip came around what, a couple times a week? I think she handled herself quite well all things considered.
