I like to think Martha had status in the USSR as an American, began to move in some elevated circles, and became the mistress and then wife of a powerful man.

I have no idea how they'll end this series, but even though Martha is now "behind the Iron Curtain," that iron curtain is coming down within about 6 years of where we are in this show now in 1983.

I see Martha as the kind of extant threat to Philip and Elizabeth. She knows.

Come 1989-90, Martha can become a problem. I hope they bring the actress back for the finale to show this threat, if it fits the narrative of that time!
