another childhood rapist remake

So, I watched, yet another movie that rapes our childhood. I don't even know how they had the audacity to even try to remake "sleepless in seattle" and have no *beep* concept of what that movie was about. yes, i know that the modern romantic comedy is basically dead, but does that mean they have to *beep* on a classic film by turning it into an action movie?

so, what the *beep* was all this about? i mean, there were a lot of problems, among them: jamie foxx playing the role of the great comedy legend tom hanks (who is still alive by the way and could play this role with vigor again. even as an action movie. have you seen those satantic davinci movies?). then michelle monaghan does the meg ryan role (also still alive, but kind of crazy looking because of her plastic surgery. haven't seen her in a movie lately, but i'm sure the adorably factor is still there (but now probably in a california granmother sort of way). she could do well in this remake). the other thing about sleepless is where is the fan service? there were no easter eggs, there was no reference to anything that has to do with the original film. i mean, if anything, a cameo by rob reiner.

And that well-loved finale of sleepless in seattle where tom hanks finally meets meg ryan at the top of the empire state building is diminished to having the two couples, monaghan and foxx finally meet halfway through the movie at the top floor of the luxus.

And that sweet moment of meg and tom holding hands turns into a fight scene with monaghan and foxx -- which is in reality a not-so subtle s&m sex scene.

plus, with all the sweating that jamie foxx was doing, i kept wanting to get him a bottle of gatorade.

anyway, bad movie. total thumbs down. matter of fact siskel and ebert are rolling in their graves. when remaking a movie, let's not throw the whole premise out the window.
