Sony Pictures Sued by 'Wild Oats' Financier

Sony is being sued by one of the financiers of Wild Oats for failing to timely pay nearly $1 million, according to a complaint filed Wednesday in California federal court.

Impex Enterprises, a Bahamas-based financier on the film, is suing Sony Pictures Worldwide Acquisitions for breach of contract.

According to the complaint, Sony was due to pay Impex $855,000 no later than 10 days after the U.S. theatrical release of Wild Oats. The comedy opened Sept. 16, triggering a payment due by the end of that month. Impex also says Sony owes it an additional $95,000 payment, which was due at the same time.

Impex claims Sony refused in writing to make the payments, and is suing for $950,000 in damages plus interest.

Wild Oats, starring Shirley MacLaine and Jessica Lange, opened in only about a hundred theaters and grossed $40,000 in domestic box-office revenue.

Sony Pictures declined to comment on the suit.

No surprise there!

Maybe they can use all of that Ghostbusters Box Office profit to pay off the balance?

Oh wait... there IS NO Ghostbusters profit!

Oh, but didn't you hear? It made back its profit margin! No need to calculate the marketing budget into that - AtC fans told us everything is a-ok!

Yeah, And it's been rumoured that Sony is about to sell Spider-Man back to Marvel to recover from their billion loss last quarter.

Wow, that was fast! Are they already predicting a Spider-Man: Homecoming flop or something?

reply

No, It's because they've lost $960 Million last quarter and this quarter's movies will likely flop, Which they already are with Resident Evil making $135 Million and Life and Smurfs: the Lost Villages look like they could flop due to their bad acting and CGI, Sony will have to sell the Spider-Man rights back to Marvel so Disney can make Homecoming a success and Sony can save themselves from eventual bankruptcy.

Er, Marvel wouldnt buy the rights back under any circumstances, they dont have to.

If Sony doesnt keep releasing Spider-Man movies, the rights revert back to Marvel without having to spend a dime.

If Sony/Columbia are having financial difficulties, then they cant finance a Spider-Man movie, rights revert.

Quite simply, if Sony does find itself in a position to have to or want to sell the rights, Sony/Columbia goes out of business right after or Sony Japan shuts them down.

Well, They aren't going to have any choice other than to find a position to have or want to sell the rights back to Marvel, Sony will recover or go out of business after or Sony Japan shuts them down.

reply

Yeah, They aren't gonna be able to keep Spider-Man for much longer so they may have to sell him back to Marvel, Probably before the release of Homecoming, So Disney can finally use him for their own productions and maybe make Homecoming their production too.

Yeah, And maybe they can reference him in one of the Marvel Netflix shows or even get him his own Netflix show so he can team up with Matt, Jessica, Danny and Luke once they have the full rights back. And put him in a crossover movie with other superheroes or even have his own Spider-Verse movie. Or even have his own Style Disney makeover movie with Guardians of the Galaxy and Avengers-style Disney makeover movies.
