Alternatives to IMDB?

I'm gonna miss the message boards alot. They were places where I could see other users explain scenes that I cannot understand and post interesting theories that I've never thought of before. Shutting down the message board because of trolls is like shutting down a main road where many people go to work from because wreckless drivers drive on it.

We need a good alternative to IMDB that features a high quality message board and defends free speech. Even if I highly object to your opinion, I'll defend your right to say it.

I would love to know as well!! Right now I'm kind of a transitioning to Reddit, but it's just not the same.

reply

like many times before, i found a good answer to why this is happening. all about the money. cant monetize the imdb board, then heck with it they say. and it deeply saddens me. been doin this for 15 years.

reply

it will come back to bite them in the bum. clickrate and therefore ad revenue will drop like hell.

reply

Oh there is a political side to this. Part of getting rid of the boards is because opinions contrary to the Democratic Party Cult have been expressed on this site and the FASCIST REGRESSIVE LEFT CAN'T HAVE IT!

reply

You may be a psycho but the kernel truth could be that movie advertisers don't like hearing their film ravaged on the message boards, hurting the film's revenue.

The movie distributors want to throttle the message, so they threatened IMDb to cut the message boards

reply

If they didn't make bad movies then they wouldn't have that problem. Make good movies that don't get ravaged as much (because there's always going to be that select few who do no matter what) and you're movie's chances of being successful increase exponentially.

reply

Keep politics out of this. PLEASE.

reply

no, money is less important than ideology. They're shutting the boards down because people are challenging the ideologies that are being pushed within mainstream film and media. All of these films tell you what to think in some way or other and that's how they create a broad political consensus about what is good and bad, and as importantly, who is good or bad.

They are shutting it down so we can't deviate from the messaage

reply

There are no "right to say it", when it comes to spamming. Spamming this channel and forums should be strictly prohibited, if you watch other forums and message boards, it should be more Moderated, not Deleted. ps.

That quote coming from your mouth gotta be a joke. If it isn't then I would ask you with another quote 'Who gives you the right, that Only YOU can say it?'

some folks on here have already set up an IMDB forumhttp://imdb2.freeforums.net

Try video hound maybe. Without the community page, IMDb will be useless. It's the only unique feature on here. You can just google the rest of the info.

Join us IMDb refugees at TMDb (https://www.themoviedb.org)

reply

Yes I agree that TMDb is the best alternative. It's the only place to feature dedicated boards for every title and person.

reply

If anybody is interested in another movie database with dedicated boards for every individual title and person, there is a website called TMDB (https://www.themoviedb.org/talk) that recently added message boards for every specific movie and person (example: https://www.themoviedb.org/movie/149871-kaguyahime-no-monogatari You have to click on the little word bubble icon on the top left of the movie's page). A bunch of people from IMDb have already gathered at their general boards and and are discussing ways to increase activity and serve as an alternative to IMDb.

I encourage everyone to take a look at this site. I think it looks very promising. It's the only other site I know of with message boards for every movie, actor, director, etc.

I also encourage everyone to spread the word about this site, as it seems most people don't know about it.

Damn!!! thanks for the link already signed up

Bet these places will all end up modded up to the gills, to protect the bland and easily offended.

Are there any wild forums that will allow both serious discussion and trolling?

When some of these threads get out of control and offensive, the comments can be laugh out loud.

reply

Also signed up ... looks good, the new place to be :)

reply

It's a pity, because the message boards -- ridiculous as they are -- are the only reason to visit this awful site. This whole place is cumbersome and ugly, full of trivial information of use to no one, and worst of all are the reviews themselves -- almost never worth reading. Any cast or crew information can be googled far quicker than looking it up here.

Without the boards, there's really very little reason to use imdb. I can't believe they're not even keeping the old messages! What a waste.

Letterboxd is a better site to keep a watchlist and reviews, but the discussion isn't the same. The utility of it is FAR better than imdb, though.

reply

https://letterboxd.com/ is a fun site...they have been around for years....opinions flow freely there....I have been planning on it as my backupsite for my user lists....they draw their basic data from TMDB and built everything else....

reply

Damn holy crap I only just read that Important Disclaimer now after seeing this thread...can't believe its actually happening. I'm gonna miss this cesspool of a a website :( :(
