Wow you guys, look what I found: IMDb Archive SPN board

I didn't know there was another one of those...

IMDb Archive

-----------------------------------------------------------------

ETA: I hope I didn't offend Admin. I just saw someone yelling "hello" into the void in the IMDb Archive Hangman thread and told them we were here lol.

ETA2: Okay, I replied to Admin (My post on IMDb Archive). Like I said, just sharing the news with everybody.

reply

Hey, virile that is quite a find. I wonder if other boards are included and if it could help some come up with discussion ideas?

reply

It's not as active as this one though Vee, but good find. I wonder how they got permission to launch it? Curious??

reply

" I wonder how they got permission to launch it? Curious??"

Not sure. Their admin said they were registered 4 days before moviechat.

reply

I don't really know.

reply

I was shocked to find it. Other boards are included.

reply

It is nice being able to quote and have emojis and use spoiler tags.

reply

Can we do spoiler tags now highlight like we used to be able to?

reply

There you can. I just created a test thread to see how it looks.

reply

I'm just not sure how they deal with trolls, so I asked their admin. Moviechat seems to do a good job on that.

reply

Yeah, I wish we found that one first. It has all the formatting options.

reply

Oh dear I was just getting comfortable here, I felt worried about being bullied on the old IMDB site so not sure what to do, will go where you guys go I guess but it has been difficult enough getting people here so changing now might make it even worse. I will see what happens (just looking at the old threads gave me the hebejebees! I do still check in to PT but that is terrifying with the moderators slapping hands if you don't follow the absolute rules. You wouldn't think I was a fully grown up adult and older than most here - guess I am just a wimp!

reply

Hebejebees indeed! I never bothered with SK and her nasty threads before, but just glanced through now. Yikes! Hope we never sink that low again. 😵

Is the site live then? I've signed up.

reply

LOL! We have all the same threads and archives on MovieChat. They're just pushed way back now because we keep making new threads here but we have a good 60 pages of archives.

reply

I agree with you Icarus about PT. I didn't like it there either. It's too policed. I hate that you cannot post a thread that isn't topical as it gets moved. Don't over worry about bullying, they are pretty good here. I feel comfortable here and feels more like the old IMDb. I just wish we had more people to talk with. Please don't leave us!

There you can. I just created a test thread to see how it looks.
Thanks Clue!

reply

There are some interesting discussions at PrevTV so I do always check there. But rarely post because of their rules. Thing is - IMDb had it all in one place. Now we're scattered like the four winds. And it doesn't help that this season is one of the lamest (in my opinion anyway).

I agree 100% Pond. It's a shame it came to that, that we are scattered petals in the wind. Hopefully one day they will come back. Some have. But guess many don't still know we are here. Vee did a brilliant job of contacting posters but looks like that's in the wind too. :( I haven't found this season too bad. I feel a bit lost with the BMoL's if I'm honest. I don't think there a fit that I thought they were gonna be. Hess really annoy's me. And they got rid of Mick, who I was just beginning to get used to and like. Ketch is one character I am still on the fence with. I still feel tepid towards him, as I am not sure what his agenda is yet. I like the danger it's putting the boys under, that's something different. Not sure about Mary now, since I've changed my mind a bit. So I wouldn't say I hate this season, but need to see its end to make my mind up.

reply

I tried PT. Great discussions but I just didn't like the structure and the overpolicing (reminded me of TWOP). I'm also too accustomed to the free posting format of IMDb/MovieChat.

reply

PT is completely self destructing. The mods are clear cutting messages, issuing ban warnings and threatening to lock out threads (and you need a flow chart to figure out what topics you are allowed to talk about in each room). It is the most censored/regulated board I have ever seen.

reply

"you need a flow chart to figure out what topics you are allowed to talk about in each room"

LMAO!!! True.

reply

I think there are a lot more mod problems at PT now because of the influx of new posters from imdb, bringing with it more diversity in fans than they had before this. LOL! Until imdb closed down I honestly think everyone at PT was just preaching to the choir, which negates the need for moderation when you're speaking into a vacuum.

It looks to me like the regulars are mostly Sam fans and some Cas fans, all saying the same thing to each other, and that's why there was little need to mod anything. But now that the mod is having to pay more attention to the board, it's like she's pissed off about it and is going overboard with the ruler. It's intimidating and not stimulating a desire for newbies to talk. I also don't think it's all that welcoming for die-hard Dean fans.

There's a lot of pontificating at that board too, which looks impressive, but IMO is wasted on a project that really doesn't deserve it, especially this season. Heh.

Even though I really hate this season more than any before, I also admit I am happy to be here. It's a lot less stressful, more lax and fun, and so far seems open to all opinions and discussions.

reply

I was wondering what impact the influx of IMDb posters would have on PT. I can see them having their own rhythm, being comfortable with their existing dynamic and suddenly having to adjust to all those new people and their differing point of views.

I already thought the board was quite regimented (compared to others) before the great IMDb migration. As a newbie, you come in and you try get a feel for the place and see how things work but then you see all the hand slapping going on you and you go, "I"ll just wait here, then". Lol, I'm not speaking for everyone but that's definitely what I did.

This season is disappointing imo but for fans who've invested a lot of time in the show, it's still nice to have a place where we can get together, talk about what we like, don't like, and respect each other's points of view. Like you, it's something I appreciate about this board. We can criticize aspects of the show without things getting tense and we can have some fun too :)

reply

""all saying the same thing to each other,""

This was my first reaction. They appear to love and have a good knowledge about the Show. However, they don't like debate or outsiders and the influx of (unruly) IMDb members has upset their nice comfy apple cart... so they're scurrying about making new rules. If you post in the wrong topic your post will be removed and punitive measures handed out!! WTF!!

I hope this site doesn't die during the long summer hiatus.

reply

"I hope this site doesn't die during the long summer hiatus."

Me too. I think it will. Depends on if the WGA settles, and it's just a normal hiatus. I think they might, so I'm sure we'll have things to discuss between the finale, speculation, cons, interviews, and probably games to pass the time.

reply

Do what we do every summer, just keep posting. It is a hard time because we are all off doing our own thing. But from past experiences, those hardcore fans were the ones that stuck around. We invested time in keeping it going and it paid off. We need to think of topic's to keep us going and to keep us amused. It's a long old haul as it's longer than just the summer as we head into October whereas moons ago it used to come back September so it wasn't so bad. Just hang in there we will be okay I am sure.

reply

Sorry. My second sentence should say, 'I think it will be fine.' Not sure why I cut it short, but I did, so it looks like I don't think we'll be okay. I do. Same as you. :)

reply

I noticed this too. Yesterday was a pretty brutal smack down by the mods there, and there are far fewer conversations there today.

reply

I thought about that too, Icarus. We built a community here already, but I couldn't seat on this information, I had to share it with you guys.

The old threads are here too by the way. We have like 60 pages of archives on MovieChat.

I'm staying here. I just really wish we could have those formatting options.

ETA: well, I'll go where the community goes.

reply

They will come in time Vee, we just need to be patient. Jim probably is overrun by work and he's just doing it bit by bit when he has the time. I love it here too, we are so blessed. I am the same as you that I am too accustomed to the free posting format, and that's what I love the most when I've gone in search of other places to post. It didn't have the same vibe, or friendliness that IMDb/MovieChat have.

reply

"They will come in time Vee, we just need to be patient."

That's what I've been telling myself but to see that there's a place that already has everything makes it a bit harder to be patient. I honestly wish Archive had advertised on IMDb. It's the perfect replacement but until a few days ago, I never even knew it existed.

reply

Vee, please don't think I was being snarky, I just meant that eventually it will be like the old place and we will have those tools. I don't want you doing a disappearing act now on us Vee?!? I don't think we have all the threads yet either, as we only have 3 pages on this board to go back to if we want to. So we still have more downloads. It has been a while since the board stopped for technical work. Usually, he gives us a warning on the front page if the site is down for maintenance work. Hang in there, Vee!!

reply

Oh no, Belle! I didn't think you were being snarky and I didn't mean to come across snarky in my response either.
I'm not going anywhere. I love the board and love you guys.
We do have all the threads. They go up to page 63. Click on the arrow.

reply

Love you too, WOW didn't realize everything was there? Pleased you're not going anywhere, would hate to loose ya! xx

reply

I'm still here! In Baja at the moment, so haven't checked the board. What happened to Hangman?

reply

Hey Denese.

You mean OUR Hangman thread (I just replied to it, it was on page 2), or the one I responded to on the IMDb Archive (see link in the OP)?

reply

I feel like we've been building a community here too, and I'll stay here as well. I'm guessing there are more lurkers here than we suspect. Maybe the longer we're here, the more comfortable they'll feel posting. Right now, things are a little slower, because we're in a mini-hiatus, but when there isn't a hiatus, I think there's a pretty good flow of conversation. I just feel a little bad for filmboards.com's admin who left you a message that felt a little like, 'I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Please help or at least don't go.' When I have something to post here, I'll probably start putting up duplicates there. Doubt I'll get any hits, but it feels kind of like the right thing to do? Besides, it'll kick some of those negative threads onto the next page and the next, like we have here.

The thing about moviechat is that even though the formatting options aren't available yet, it feels relaxed here. I hardly ever used to post on the SPN IMDb board, because in the back of my head, I used to wonder if each new post was the one that would bring unnecessary and unwanted ire in my direction. I like the free flow of conversations here that I don't think you can have as well on PT or other places. I like that conversations can be had without them being hijacked and turned into something else that just spirals down into a cesspit of negativity that has nothing to do with the show or original topic. I also like that we're small, and maybe some of that is down to the lack of formatting options, but even if it's not, with less attention, there are fewer out and out trolls or repeated threads of 'This show should have ended in season 5,' or 'I think they should bring back Jesse,' or 'What about Adam?'

reply

It's more, relaxed clue because certain posters are not here, those posters who caused aggro probably don't know about this place, so for now we are okay, keep everything crossed.

I agree. The only way I could see me moving there is if I'd known about it first. We've been having great discussions on this board and we have fantastic threads here that I don't want to leave behind 😔

I felt really bad too. The mod seems nice and they've done such a good job with the archive. I'm honestly torn because formatting options reeeallly matter to me but like I said, we've built something here and I personally spent quite a bit of my personal time reaching out to old posters and inviting them here. I just don't feel right switching boards out of the blue. I don't think I'll be posting there (I might change my mind, you never know), but for now, I think I would be giving admin some hope and I would hate to crush them again since we've kinda decided to stay on Movie Chat. I also don't want to risk splitting the community over 2 boards. I don't know. It's a case of curiosity killing the cat with me finding this board and kinda wishing I had minded my own business lol.

"The thing about moviechat is that even though the formatting options aren't available yet, it feels relaxed here. I posted plenty on the IMDb board because I'm talkative lol, and I just tried to stay away from belligerent posters (I also refused to bite when baited). I do like it a lot here. I feel everybody's making an effort to be welcoming and open to others and we can disagree without resorting to low blows, throwing labels and baseless accusations or trying to shame others because they like some aspect of the show. We have a good thing going. HTML or no! 😋

"I also like that we're small, and maybe some of that is down to the lack of formatting options, but even if it's not, with less attention, there are fewer out and out trolls or repeated threads of 'This show should have ended in season 5,' or 'I think they should bring back Jesse,' or 'What about Adam?'"

Lol! I was one who didn't really mind the 'the show should have ended on season 5' threads because I ignored most of them, but I'm so grateful for the current lack of 'where's Adam' and 'bring back Jesse'. Although, I wouldn't pitch a fit if those threads started up again. Safe room for everyone to express themselves. I will say that these are 2 characters I personally don't give a flying fig about and I do appreciate the current focus on the writing for season 12 or new fans discovering the show and sharing their impressions of the last seasons with us like Strannger 👏
