Not my cup of tea...

So I've seen two movies of Quentin Tarantino [Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs] and both the films are even if not immensely disappointing, they are disappointing. Apart form the acting and score, there is really nothing groundbreaking in both the movies.

I get that Pulp Fiction have nice dialogues and it is non-linear at its peak, but even that two things doesn't make a movie great. There were no suspense for me in the whole movie, no thrill and literally 3-4 laughs at scenes. Even I was struggling to concentrate on the movie.

And don't judge me that I don't like non-linear, suspense, mystery films. I love movies and every kind of movies, they are just WOW!

And another thing that I don't get is it is higher ranked than FIGHT CLUB! MAN FIGHT CLUB! I loved that movie like *beep*. I just keep on watching it over and over again. Pulp Fiction is higher ranked than Nolan's some of the best movies and Fincher's some of the best movies like Se7en and Gone Girl!

Judge me and convince me that this movie really deserves to be on 7th rank! Because for me, it is worthy for IMDb Top 250 but not in the top 10 range, but in the 200-250 range!

(I know I am pi**ed now because everyone gonna slam me with their comments!!!)

PF is rated 8.9, FC is rated 8.8. A fractional 0.1 difference is hardly any cause to fill your britches with foam over what IMDB members collectively rated these two movies. No offense, but you're being a bit of a drama princess splitting hairs over movies that have near identical ratings.

Inger, you must rot, because the times are rotten.

reply

Exactly agreed. But see, when you are browsing good movies to see from Top 250, you will notice it by rank and not by rated number. That's what I am saying, because FC is just far more complex film with more deeper character development and and storytelling. That's why I am being "a drama princess splitting hairs over movies that have near identical ratings"!

Perhaps you haven't explored the site beyond the top 250, but it's quite easy to find good movies with IMDB's multiple top lists sorted by whatever criteria you prefer - by genre, by year, box office, and various other sorting criteria.

IMDB has a feature film inventory of nearly one million movies, until you learn how to surf the site, you are limiting your own exposure to only 250 movies out of nearly one million movies. So that onus is on you, it's not the site's or list's fault you choose to ignore how to explore a movie site.

Inger, you must rot, because the times are rotten.

reply

No, it's not that. I am just saying that really the TOP 250 has the best movies collection.

And I am no beginner here, using IMDb from more than 3 years and have an account since 1 year and 7 months. I do watch many films that are not in Top 250, you can see my ratings. I am just saying whenever a beginner comes here, he/she starts to find good movies by seeing Top 250. So I am saying this just for them.

Also, It's nice talking with you actually! Enjoying some more expanded ideas to explore here on IMDb message boards, looking for more people like this!

Ahh... I see, so your motive here is you're playing forum hero for the beginners. Well then, I would imagine all those cinematic tenderfoots will appreciate the cyber crusade you have taken up. Though I'm sure an IMDB "veteran" such as yourself knows there is already forums to assist site beginners along with a detailed Help Center.

Lastly, if you think this site is not user friendly to beginners, there's nothing anyone here can do about it, so you're barking up the wrong tree in your valiant effort to stand bravely for the beginners. You need to redirect your heroic protest to IMDB support. I'm sure you being an IMDB veteran, I don't need to tell you how to submit an IMDB support ticket.

Fight Club is pretentious and overrated trash, and don't compare a guy like Nolan who makes run of the mill blockbuster movies to Tarantino. You only sound ignorant when you say PF is not groundbreaking; maybe it doesn't look like it is today, but that's only because there have been countless copycats since it was released due to its influence. Why don't you try and digest this: http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/SeinfeldIsUnfunny

And work on your grammar, kiddo.

reply

Okay, got your point! But there are some movies which are old and even when If I watch it today for the first time, it feels so new and interesting you can't resist! And I didn't got that thing in Pulp Fiction. Maybe If I had seen that movie in theater at that time when it was released(I wasn't even born at that time), I would've appreciated it.

And on what basis you are saying Fight Club is trash, because everyone's opinion matters! Please tell me why do you think so.

Any grammatical mistake in this post? Please let me know.

reply

Nolan?
Fight Club was David Fincher, my friend.
And it is also a fantastic film.

reply

Yes, I know that. I am just saying that both the directors are my favorite!

reply

Nolan isn't a run of the mill Director. That's just insane. His Batman films completely revolutionized a Genre and everyone is trying to play catch-up. Memento, Insomnia, The Prestige and Inception are also far from "Typical" Blockbusters. Interstellar is the closest he has come to being "Typical" and even that is a quality picture. I prefer Fincher myself but Nolan is a great director.

reply

convince me that this movie really deserves to be on 7th rank

Nah. You didn't dig it. That's ok. Life goes on for everyone. Don't worry about what's on Imdb.

You are sin.

reply

Nice! LOL!

reply

Quentin Tarantino doesn't make cups of tea, he pours shots of whiskey so maybe you just couldn't handle it but don't say it's not groundbreaking because it was.

There is no other movie like Pulp Fiction or Reservoir Dogs because they are unique and badass and they break the conventions of what a movie can be.

Not everyone is going to enjoy that. I don't really like his movies much either personally, but they are certainly impressive in their own right.

Fight Club is better though.

reply

Nice reply. Appreciated!

reply

Why do so many people like Fight Club? I seen it maybe like 5 times. Every time was a waste of my time. It's gotta be because of Brad Pitt, I guess.

I'm Batman!

reply

Hi, i agree, Pulp Fiction is not my cup of tea either. You can read my full review of it here http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0110912/reviews-2590

reply

Yeah, PF was always a little overrated. The acting and writing was pretty good and I especially love Sam Jackson's scenes. But the fact that it was non-linear and different than pretty much anything made before it convinced most audiences it was better than it was. About 7.5/10 for me. I do agree that Fight Club is better, that one is 10/10 and on my favorite list of all time.

No sense in complaining about the ratings though. Its always gonna be coinciding with the mainstream audience's way of thinking. I find that if I like/dislike movies at different levels than everybody else does, I'm at a good spot.
