MovieChat Forums > General Discussion > Las Vegas Raiders?

It's all about the money anymore. Some things just are not right and the Raiders to LV is one of them. Heck, I was never OK with the Oiler's leaving Houston (not from there or a fan). I could see in the early years teams making adjustments such as the Chief's leaving Dallas for KC as they had a very poor chance there or the Charger's leaving LA for SD.

pro players are so overpaid these days...its ridiculous

reply

They went to L.A. and then they came back...
I wonder if they will come back again after a few years, and if anyone will even care by then?
They should just change the name to The Nomads.

reply

Well, the raiders seem fitting. There were many criminals that lived in Nevada, even before Las Vegas was named.

reply

If every team gave back money to the states they were in, the country would be better off. Now THAT would be something worth cheering for.

reply

They do, albeit indirectly. think about the piles of cash that will be dropped in vegas when they host the super bowl.

reply

Well, then there is that. I forget that when big events are had in states, it does help the economy for that duration of time.

reply

I think you will also see a lot of people and groups taking a weekend trip to see their team when they play in Vegas, which means 2-3 days of hotels, dinners, Fri\ Sat night at clubs or shows and capped off with the game on Sunday.

I feel bad for the loyal fans of Oakland but I definitely see it as a big plus for the Vegas economy, even after accounting for stadium construction costs.

The name sounds very odd!

reply

Yes it does.

But if they drop the "Raiders" then millions of existing fans will have no allegiance to them.

reply

True enough . How about "Vegas Rollers"? 🙃😜

I'll let you in on a little secret.....they're in it for the money.

Oakland screwed yet again.

reply

They should have built a new stadium. Then the Raiders would have stayed.

Unfortunate for the fans though. I was living there just a few years after Al Davis went to LA and some fans I talked to then understood the NFL is just another business but still felt screwed over as fans. Life goes on..

It is a business, but sometimes it's a cruel one.

And John Madden is not enthusiastic about it.
