Does this take you back? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eE6CTjSwH9I
This was the later version in the 1970s.
I grew up in New Jersey, and this was regular daily viewing for me when I came home after school. This was where I first discovered such classics as To Kill a Mockingbird; To Sir, With Love; Bye Bye Birdie; and Some Like it Hot.
There was also Biblical Epic Week, Martin and Lewis Week, Silly Sex Comedy Week (or something like that) and other themes I can't remember. Because of the 90 minute time slot, a lot of these movies were shown over two (or more) days.
Occasionally, the movie was pre-empted by an "ABC Afterschool Special," but otherwise, this was a treat for movie lovers.
Unfortunately, the slot would be taken over by "Oprah" and other local stations followed suit; later generations of kids got stuck with that and with other daytime sludge such as "Judge Judy," "Jerry Springer," etc. At least there are
cable movies in the afternoon now.
I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!
Hewwo.
