Claiming the titel DJ....

Dj's nowadays perform using cdplayers. Back in my days a DJ preformed spinning vinyl records. It seems that anybody can be a modern DJ for a night because it is too easy sync beats when you can literally read the bpm of the display.

In my opinion one is not a DJ when one cannot spin records, I believe the talent is sync the bpm on hearing. And are the veteran DJ's "the real" DJ's.

Because I don't see that many modern DJ's perform nowadays, I can't judge and therefore I am curious what your opinion is.

I don't want to start a discussion about witch name is better than the other or witch style is the best by the way, so please no disrespectful or hateful comments 👍✌

do some use laptop and mp3?

Actually DJ's use a digital timecode system (such as Traktor or Serato) with a CDJ system or vinyl records. Yes it is helpful to be able to read the BPM's but any DJ worth his or her weight will still have to beat match the two songs still making them "real DJ's". As for those who Sync well that's just lazy.
DJing today comes in many forms.

It all comes down to playing a set that makes people dance, or the event memorable. I don't care what technology a DJ uses to mix songs, as long as they don't plagiarize another DJ's set.

Yes, mixing vinyl is without a doubt a more difficult art to master. I remember when it was only records being mixed, but even then you had "biters". It wasn't as common as it is now though, because DJ's used to have a certain code of ethics, one of which was to never lift someone's set and then claim it as your own.

Nowadays, it's beyond stealing sets. Like you said, they will edit a mix on their computers to make it flawless, and then just press play when they perform. With software like Ableton and modern hardware effects, they can just loop in a beat that's perfectly synced in real-time. Incredibly, these chumps still get respect and subsequent gigs. It seems that no one cares about the craft anymore.
