Kid and Play missed out on a Wll Smith type of career

I remember their cartoon. They had that Kid and Play dance they would do. Things started out promising even when they starred in House Party. That movie was rated R and didn't appeal to a broad audience.

People like to hate on Will Smith. But he had forsight and good business sense. He knew he had to progress and jumped on it. Likewise after Fresh Prince of Bel Aire.

Fresh off the Aunt Viv (Janet Hubert) controversy. In this interview, Alphonso Ribeiro was asked why Will Smith never reached out to his former cast members. What he said is golden.

See @29:53-26:35 especially at the 20:35-53. Will Smith is about his brand and passing down his wealth generation to generation. Janet Hubert didn't get it.

Although I like most their comedies I don't think they had any dramatic chops to pull off what Will pulled off.

The plan is you drink a nice tall glass of shut the *beep* up.

Most of his dramatic efforts have been his biggest bombs.

I haven't watched the vid yet(Vlad has been brutal lately) but I'm assuming they just mean the sitcom as being having blockbusting star power on the level that Will Smith had in the 90's is not easy to emulate.

Actually "House Party" was supposed to be a film for Will and his DJ, Jeff Townes (aka DJ Jazzy Jeff).

Story goes that New Line Cinema wanted to sue Will and Jeff - who performed as the duo DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince - over their song "Nightmare On My Street" because it sampled the theme to "A Nightmare On Elm Street" or something like that. New Line's conditions were that Will and Jeff had to star in a New Line film and all would be forgiven. The film was to be directed by Reginald Hudlin, but when he found out the conditions under which Will and Jeff agreed to star in the film, he refused to go through with it.

Now I imagine "House Party" would have never been the iconic film that it is had it starred any duo other than Kid N Play.

I like both duo and I truly wanted Kid & Play to have success as well, I'm trying to remember their cartoon I was 7 or 8 in the early 90s I remember MC Hammer cartoon and I think I remember Kid & Play cartoon. Anyways, numerous times I try to imagine Will & Jazz playing in House Party I believe they would have been great in the movie and I can see both Will and Jazz doing the rapping and the dance moves. Kid & Play just really pulled it off I'm glad Kid had a little bit of success guest starring in TV shows in the 90s here and there.
