Prog metal: suggestions wanted

I've been listening to a lot of Dream Theatre, Symphony X and Savatage recently, and have just tried an album by Kamelot that I like a lot. Can you suggest any other similar bands that I could try?

I'm not the biggest fan of Progressive Metal, but here are two such albums from my collection that I'm fond of:

Crimson Glory - Transcendence (1988)

Fates Warning - Awaken the Guardian (1986)

Cheers! Will give both albums a good listening to.

I don't think King's X are quite progressive metal, but a lot of prog metal fans like them. Please click on

I heard the King's X sound described as RUSH meets Metallica meets The Beatles.

Epica is pretty good.

Puya is, too.

Don't know if those two count, though...

I second that. King's X rules.

Porcupine Tree is all you need. Start with Deadwing, Fear of a Blank Planet, and The Incident, then go back to Signify and work your way back up. After that, dive into Steven Wilson's solo material. They don't call him the King of Prog for nothing.

I've been really into Opeth lately. I recommend their album Blackwater Park.

I'm definitely gonna check out some of the other suggestions here :)
