The most successful band/s up until today?

Don't know that much about rock bands, but in our world today I mostly hear of Green day, Guns 'n roses, and AC/DC. Considering rock is strong force to be reckon with in the music industry and yet it is not that popular, well where I come from it is not the popular. So can you help me to give me some pointers on who is considered as rock legends?

Iron Maiden has achieved success in multiple ways - not just money, but also longevity and being influential to later bands. I recommend you check out the documentary Iron Maiden: Flight 666 (2009).

Led Zeppelin and Rush.

Your sarcasm has driven me to idiocy.

The Rolling Stones. They still headline stadiums and arenas. Yes it took them 11 years to do a new album, but they have longevity unlike The Beatles who broke up over 45 and nearly 50 years ago.

I thought of another one. Metallica. Yes they are more so a metal band regardless of what the purists who whine about The Black Album say, but they are still one of the biggest rock titans and the biggest metal band ever. Still headlining festivals and they still go on world tours. Unlike Tool, they actually gave us a new album. While The Rolling Stones are the biggest rock band, Metallica are the biggest heavy metal band and are The Rolling Stones of heavy metal.

The Beach Boys are the most successful, longest running and biggest-charting U.S. rock & roll act.
The Men of the Beach began recording in 1962 and released an LP in 2012, 50 years after their founding.

The Beach Boys are just one or 2 chart hits above Chicago, which is the second-biggest U.S. rock and roll act.

Both those are the longest-running U.S. rock groups.

In terms of chart singles, in the U.S., it's Beach Boys, Chicago, Eagles, Jefferson Airplane/Starship in terms of rank, according to the stats I saw from Billboard Magazine.

The Who have been filling arenas since the early 1970s. Their first top ten album in the USA was Tommy in 1969 and every new studio album they released after that (and even a couple live albums) also hit the top ten, up to and including Endless Wire in 2006. They sold out Giants Stadium four nights in a row in 1989 and Madison Square Garden six nights in a row in 1996. Seeing them in London in a few months at the Royal Albert Hall.
