Still one of my favorite and best of the 80’s video nasties.
I think it's one of the first movies to ride the cult wave created by The Thing and I love it. The kills come early and often, it’s bloody and gory, the main creature still holds up remarkably well and it’s a lot of fun.
The movie starts off with four bloody and agonizing deaths, two creature sightings, including one major creature sighting, All IN THE FIRST 15 MINUTES!….today, you gotta wait 30 -50 minutes before something even mildly interesting happens!
The best part is, after the first 15 minutes there are a lot more gory deaths and mayhem to come!
And the kid in the movie could literally be me or any one of us who grew up in the 80’s watching The Thing, Alien or The Incredible Melting Man. Yeah, he’s that kid..he even likes Bigfoot!
For those who haven’t seen it, The Deadly Spawn is about a meteorite that comes crashing on earth and releases a hostile alien organism and it's army of spores. They spend the rest of the movie attacking and eating a small nearby community.
Other Similar movies are Slither (2006) and The Boogens (1981) and maybe Invaders From Mars (1986).
Fun popcorn, doobie flick. 7/10
