A Place for Mom

When I see this ad, I think of Janet Leigh in Psycho suggesting that Norman Bates put his difficult mother in some "place." The testimonial from the elderly woman who talks about how her kids insist "you're going to LOVE it here"
[now shut up and do what you're told] is chilling. And if Joan Lunden believes it's such a great place, maybe she should allow her kids to put her there; she's
old enough for it, after all.

I'm not crying, you fool, I'm laughing!

I've seen this commercial many times and I cannot figure out how A Place For Mom manages to make money and it seems that they get a huge payment of money for every time they air the commercial. Another thing I can't figure out is why is it called A Place For Mom when it should be called A Place For Dad or a Place For Grandma/Grandpa because it seems that elderly mothers are the most cared for of parents rather than grandfathers and fathers and grandmothers. But with Joan Lunden as spokeswoman it proves that A Place For Mom will remain in business for a while
