I saw the BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN opera.

I hated it! The 2 protagonists had no chemistry because of how they were written (it wasn't the actors' fault) and the music didn't fit the story (it sounded like it belonged in the horror genre!).

Remember the last part of the movie where ENNIS talks to LUREEN and JACK's parents? Because of the pauses, expressions and gestures, it's left ambiguous whether they knew ENNIS & JACK's secret. That's lost here because the scenes were re-designed for the opera. It was a bad idea to adapt it to this medium. Actually, it would've been a bad idea to adapt it to any kind of play. Remember in the movie when ENNIS imagines JACK being murdered while LUREEN tells him how he supposedly die? That's not shown here either. All these changes prevent the viewer from debating afterwards, which takes away the complexity of the story.
