Why do most makeup sales women . . .

Why do most makeup sales women look like they have on too much makeup? You would think they would be experts. And how does it affect sales when women see the expert has on too much make up? I would expect the make up counter would be manned by beautiful women. But instead I see girls who look like wax figures or Halloween characters.

They maybe have the idea that "more is more" when it comes to make-up!

They may have that idea. But, then I would think that would hurt sales. Because what women would want to look that?

It's certainly a strange one - a lot of the time they look quite orange and it's not a flattering look.

I think that they are probably told to wear alot of products to showcase the different trends. But just because they wear that much doesn't mean they don't know what to doing. A few different sales people at Sephora helped my friend and didn't apply the makeup heavy at all on her.

It's all about sales. More specifically, cross-selling.

When a potentially new customer or a replenishment customer comes to the counter, they need to see what a particular product looks like on a person. Hence the sales associates wear the entire line so they can describe what each product does and looks like.

Another analogy is buying a new car. Do you go to the factory to pick individual parts? Or do you go to the dealership to see the final product fully loaded or without options?

"Fully loaded" or "options" in the retail make-up world is called "cross-selling".
