Australia--I might go. Please give advice. I have questions.

I might go to Australia this coming June by myself, like most of the time when I travel. I've done little research so far. But I want advice from those of you who have been there already. I would take off from the United States. Does the price of the plane ticket tend to rise, if I wait, let's say until April to buy the ticket? I would want to visit Brisbane, Malbourne and Sydney. The plane arrives in Sydney. What city do I go after Sydney? Are there any cities near-by I should visit? Do I take a train, bus or plane? Are there places where you are allowed to pet/touch kangaroos or Koalas? Is is true many shops in some cities close at 5:00 P.M.? Is the average temperature in June about 10 degrees celcius? Should I visit, maybe another country, like South Korea or Taiwan? Is it rainy season? I like eating snacks. I like nachos, hot dogs with nacho cheese and pizza New York style. Are there places where they serve these kind of American snacks? What are good, popular Australian snacks? Do they sell Dr. Pepper soda in Australia? The only thing I know is that I would eat Nando's chicken with dark red sauce. What are the must-see places like museums or shopping malls? I'm not into discos. I don't drink, but if bars sell good food or snacks, I'll go right away. Any advice helps. Thanks in advance.

This board is dead, and I have no answer for you.

I suggest either the Trip Advisor, or, if you're into Couchsurfing, they have a good group that deals with questions such as this: AIRLINES (LOW-COST, BUDGET, CHEAP FLIGHTS). I travel a lot, and enjoy using the Rough Guide, which has an edition for Australia.

if you are thinking of flying out in June, prices may be slightly lower than usual, as it is the start of winter there.

Australia is HUGE and very spread out, so the best way to travel between cities is flying. For example, Sydney to Melbourne is a 1 1/2 hour flight. Melbourne/Brisbane 2 1/2 hours. Sydney/Brisbane 1 1/2 hours.

Yes, there are tons of wildlife parks to pet Kangaroos and Koalas. However, you're best doing this at a park that allows this. Don't disturb wild ones. I was once attacked by a Kangaroo and it was quite scary! It didnt hit me, but if they kick you they can cause some serious damage.

Lots of shops do close at 5, but they may also have a late opening day. Most supermarkets are open until around 10, except on weekends where it may be 5pm.

Melbourne in June will be cool during the day, and cooler in the evening. Sydney and Brisbane will be somewhat warmer, 20-25 during the day and around 10-15 at night.

I've not been to Brisbane, so cannot speak for there, but Sydney and Melbourne is great for eating out. Especially Melbourne.

For the top sites, just have a look on Trip advisor.

Impolite internet behavior. But I'm old school.....

Hello lubin: I thought typing "Thanks in advance" would be enough. But thanks again everybody for the responses. I really appreciate it.

June will be cold. Check online weather information.

Quite a difference in temp between Brisbane and Melbourne too.

How long are you staying? Perhaps land in Melbourne and make your way to Brisbane to depart, or vise versa. If you arrive and depart from Sydney you will need to do a loop to both the places you want to visit.

Most shops close at 5pm, restaurants stay open longer. Thursday evenings shops close at 9pm. Most super markets close at midnight, some a little earlier at 10pm, some shops are open 24 hrs.

Australian snacks? Meat pies and sausage rolls! The American style snacks are also available.

Dr Pepper is hard to come by now. It is sold by the box at Costco, but it is not common at all to find individual cans for sale.

South Korea is my second favourite country - very different to Australia as well. If you went to Korea first you would think Australia is backwards in soo many ways!

I'm sure you can get Dr Pepper by the can in Coles. It's randomly placed next to the British chocolates in the foreign foods aisles.

I can tell you that the Taronga Zoo in Sydney doesn't allow you to pet their marsupials. You really wouldn't want to anyway. These animals are notoriously schizophrenic, and you never know when they'll decide to attack.
