Whats the name of this type of art called?

I wish i knew what the name of this kind of art is called, but unfortunately i dont. Ive heard of the term "abstract art" before, but i got a feeling that it does not apply to this kind of art.

This type of art is often used for front cover sleaves of albums made by progressive rock bands and progressive metal bands, ill give you some examples:-

Imagine a photo or picture.......of a man sitting in an arm chair, and he is looking towards a television set, that is placed upon a coffee table. But, the man and the arm chair and the tv set and coffee table are not inside a house, they are right in the middle of some moorland wilderness where you can even see big hills or mountins in the background. I dont know if abstract is the word to describe it, but "paradox" for sure. Cause why would a man relax in an arm chair watching tv in the middle of nowhere?, where would the electricity come from to power the tv for a start?.

Heres another exmaple, imagine a photo or picture....... an old railway bridge made of old stone, and its tall and it has archways underneath it. The bridge goes across a very large lake. There is an old steam train ontop of the bridge with steam coming out of it (so obviously the train is in motion). But....the bridge comes to two broken ends at each end, meaning if the train carrys on going forwards, it will just fall off the bridge and into the lake below. Why would someone even bother going to all that trouble to put a train ontop of a bridge that couldent go anywhere?.

Thank you :-) ive always wanted to know if there is a name for it, because i quite like it. I just typed in the words "surreal art" on google, then selected the image tab, and it was like looking at hundreds and hundreds of progressive rock album sleaves lol.

Theres so many ideas you could come up with for this its pretty endless. For example you could have 2 men sitting in a boat looking like they are rowing with most of their might, but.....they are on totally dry land lol.

Look at the satirical cartoons they used to put in newspapers

I will admit, one type of art i am not much of a fan of is abstract art. Half the time it just looks so random with so little thought put behind it, and people go "wow!!!.....that is a work of genius!!" :-s

Ive seen one abstract art painting, and it honestly looks like someone has just put a paint brush into a pot of red paint, then just flickered it over the canvas, then did the same with a pot of green paint, then a pot of blue paint and so forth. I just dont buy it at all i honestly dont, but yet many people do, and many of those people are also very rich people aswell who are more than happy to spend big.

No sir, I don't not like it.

Is that all you ever do on here?, just make replies in threads saying that same sentence?, cause you made that exact same reply in this thread here

You have to learn to understand abstract art, some of it is utter rubbish, but a lot of it is fantastic. For example the classic abstract artist is Pollock. It may seem like he's just thrown a bit of paint around but there is a massive amount of control there and thought process.
It's also the most commercially viable art.

abstract

You are not using this term correctly. Abstract art is art containing images of things abstracted from real objects. Often it is possible to determine what the original object was and sometimes it is not.

Just because a work is nonrepresentational does not mean it is abstract. Plenty of abstract art is brilliant.

Here is an abstract I absolutely adore. See what you think:

That is not an abstract painting . that's more impressionist or post impressionist than abstract (the artist puts himself in the impressionist category). It's a bit tacky. different strokes and all that...
