Bruce Wayne's love interests

Why does he a different love interest in roughly every movie? Granted I don't think there's really an answer to this, since the studios and writers themselves likely don't know.

Three versions of him had a slightly romantic relationship with Selina Kyle: Batman Returns, The Dark Knight Rises and Gotham. Multiple versions of him had a romantic, sexual or even procreative relationship with Talia al Ghul (comic books, graphic novels, animated series, animated movies and The Dark Knight Rises). (If that's a spoiler, then my apologies.) Then there's also Vicki Vale (Batman [1989]), but also two others created specifically for the works in which they appeared: Chase Meridian (Batman Forever), Rachel Dawes (Batman Begins and The Dark Knight) and Silver St. Cloud (comic books, Gotham). I'm sure there are others. Often, however, he is plainly single.

Imagine a universe in which Bruce knew all of them. Even as a matter of serial monogamy, it would be wild!

Anyway, who is he meant to ultimately be with? It seems to come down to a race between Selena and Talia. They are fighters (yet antiheros), whereas all the others are kind of like bait for being damsels in distress. Yet all of the are committed to their professions and take their work very seriously: a reporter, a psychologist, an attorney, a ninja and a burglar, though notably the reporter stoops to the lowest levels or puts herself in danger to make headlines.

Julie Madison predates all those characters.

Julie Madison predates all those characters. O, wow. I didn't even know about her.

Julie Madison was Bruce Wayne's girlfriend/fiancee in the earliest Batman comic stories. Eventually she got phased out but made random returns here and there over the years. Her only film appearance that I know of was in Batman & Robin played by Elle Macpherson.

I haven't the slightest idea who he winds up with---or if he even winds up with one woman. My preference would be Selina but he obviously has a strong connection to Talia through Damian.

The Earth-2 Batman married Selina Kyle and had a daughter with her (Helena Wayne a.k.a The Huntress). Bruce and Selina dated in the regular comics as well.

Julie Madison was his first regular girlfriend.

Vicki Vale was a cheap Lois Lane knockoff.

Kathy Kane, a.k.a. Batwoman, was designed to address the fallout from the Kefauver Commission's anti-gay insanity (putting Batman, Robin, and Alfred forward as a gay trio as per Seduction of the Innocent).

There have been plenty of others in the comics, including an illegimate daughter of Alfred. Silver St. Cloud was the one that resonated with fans for her relationship with Bruce, though she couldn't accept his double life, and probably is the only one fans would put up alongside Selina and Talia as his destiny.

All roads lead to truth if you're willing to travel honestly.

Robin.

Life is pain, Highness.

I think ultimately Bruce will try relationships from time to time, only to realize that he's fated to be alone until the end.
