March 2: Happy Birthday Daniel Craig

Daniel Craig celebrates his 49th today. He began acting in the early nineties, spending most of that decade in minor roles. Starting in the 2000s he began to get more significant roles in films like Lara Croft: Tomb Raider and Road to Perdition, but his real breakthrough was as the never-named protagonist of Matthew Vaughn’s Layer Cake. Following that came his at-the-time controversial casting in a very durable action franchise:

Craig has continued as James Bond for three additional films (and counting?). We have just a tiny bit of Bond coverage at this site, so it won’t be too hard to find out how le Blog readers feel about Craig’s Bond. Craig has also appeared in several other action films of various genres, including high fantasy (as Lord Asriel in The Golden Compass), sci-fi/Western hybrid (Cowboys & Aliens), and mystery/thriller (as Mikael Blomkvist in The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo). He also appeared in the pivotal role of Stormtrooper JB-007 in The Force Awakens.
