I don't know. I feel like the first one they were reaching. Jar jar dropped a gun and shot down a droid because the first was more aimed at kids. Anikan was a child you could look up to and it's very light compared to what occured before.
Also they speculate he was going to have a big reveal. I've checked deleted scenes and commentary but nothing. If so it must've been very stuble. It may be time for a rewatch, but I remember Palentine was the one who convinced the council not jar jar.
That's a good point about no deleted scenes or commentary about anything related to Darth Jar Jar. Usually they would have abandoned plot points on those, especially something as big as this.
If I remember correctly, Jar Jar signed something giving Palpatine permission to use the army in the Clone Wars. But Palpatine still did most of the talking.
Just read the reddit thread. It's a far more substantial case than I could have imagined, but still cant sign onto it. I think George just wanted a fun character for kids and it backfired.
I personally didnt mind Jar Jar and never really understood the level of hate he received
Yeah, I think he was meant as comic relief but it didn't work out as planned. Jar Jar annoyed me, but I didn't hate him. I can see why people did, though; his voice was cringe-worthy and he was overly clumsy.
