A question about Palpatine and Anakin

Did Anakin marry Padme because of Palpatine influencing him too?

A friend brought theis up in a casual conversation, but I don't remember any real details.

I'm quite a lovely person - apart from my terrible taste in pie.

reply

No. There is no evidence that Palpatine directly influenced that in any way. Though he was certainly able to use their marriage to manipulate Anakin down the road.

reply

Palpatine got them together by suggesting Obi-Wan (and thus Anakin) protect Padme. It's impossible to say how much foresight he had as to where it would lead, but at the very least it's reasonable to assume he knew how Anakin felt about her, and that nurturing such an attachment would further corrupt him.

I think the seeds were planted years earlier. He could've foreseen that getting them together would make Anakin turning more likely instead of a jedi knight who forsaken such commitments as marriage.

reply

Eh, I doubt it. I don't see why Palpatine would influence them to do that, other than straying farther from the Jedi way.

Some people think Palpatine gave him the visions, though. That I could agree with.
