ANSWERED: Donald Trump

Is there a reason why Donald Trump was moved to Donald J. Trump?

http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0874339/

Donald Trump has been and is clearly the more common usage.

Is there a reason why Donald Trump was moved to Donald J. Trump? Probably, but I could only guess the reason, since neither does a contribution guideline state anything about "common name" of a person nor did I make the name change edit. (I wouldn't be surprised if member of the Trump family made the edit.)

Donald Trump has been and is clearly the more common usage. You're of course free to change the name item back to "Donald Trump".

Hi StevePiricziki,

There is no policy stated that it must be the most commonly used name, it is mostly down to the personal preference of the individual. His official Twitter and Facebook page both list Donald J. Trump so I think it is fair to presume that this is his preference and leave it as is.

I'm confused.

Most of his existing/past credits have the "(as Donald Trump)" attribute.

Is it likely that most of his future credits will also have that attribute?

Is there any relevance here to the "general "rule" that
"the primary name ... is the one by which they are most often credited",
with the limited "exception to the rule if [IMDb] have reason to believe
someone will be using a different name for all future credits"?

If that exception is relevant, does IMDb "have reason to believe"
that "all future credits" will include the middle initial?

If not, is there some other documented exception that applies?

Or is there an undocumented exception;
i.e., is the documentation incomplete?

If the documentation is incomplete on this point, can that
be fixed in a future edition of the Names submission guide?

Most of his existing/past credits have the "(as Donald Trump)" attribute.

Exactly. So now we have to list his credits "(as Donald Trump)". I have rarely seen his credits as "Donald J. Trump" on the episodes that have been added. Additional waste of time, IMO.

There is no policy stated that it must be the most commonly used nameI thought there was. I've seen some threads on this board before in which a contributor asked for a name to be corrected because the most-used name should be at the top of a person's IMDb page. A staffer then - rightly so - fixed this.

Marco.

The Names Submission Guide's "General Rules" section says
"There are no strict rules when it comes to proper names ..."
...
but the "Primary name" section notes a "general rule" that
"The primary name for a person in IMDb is
the one by which they are most often credited. ..."
(except if IMDb has "reason to believe someone will
be using a different name for all future credits."
