REDIRECTED: STAFF

https://contribute.imdb.com/updates?update=tt0077413:producers.correct

I have asked for help with this problem for years, and my previous thread in which I asked for my badges to be deleted was removed.
http://akas.imdb.com/board/bd0000042/thread/208844615

I will not ask you anymore. Remove all of my badges and remove my user name from your yearly lists going back to 2006. Do not put it on this list this year. https://contribute.imdb.com/updates/guide/top_contributors

I would like for the staff to explain why this has continued, given that it violates your guidelines. I understand that I will be placated yet again. It would be very simple for you to contact these contributors and explain their mistakes to them and flag them in order to prevent further changes. As anyone reading this can see, instead of putting a stop to this nonsense, the staff has decided to facilitate this by intentionally adding (also as) attributes to the production text. I have removed hundreds, if not thousands, of these "attributes" over the past several years. The production text, e.g.
A JOHN FORD Production
belongs in the trivia section, i.e, The production text for this film reads: A JOHN FORD Production
*not* in the attribute field next to the producer. (Why do I have to explain this?) Of course the staff knows this already.

The Contributors' Charter has recently been changed dramatically. I believe this is one of the reasons that my post was deleted, since I quoted several portions of the previous version. I have proven that the staff will not flag prolific contributors, no matter how flagrantly they violate the guides, which says a great deal in my opinion.

For example: https://contribute.imdb.com/updates/guide/castHowever, the subheading (i.e. U.S. Marines) is NOT a character name, so it should NOT be included with the credit.

Please note that the job titles should reflect the person, not the task. In other words, use "script editor" instead of "script editing"; "weapons consultant" instead of "weapons consulting"; "translator" instead of "translation"; "caterer" instead of "catering".

Hi Indy, I'm sorry you feel like that. Please rest assured that there is no conspiracy here - your old thread has expired and nobody has touched the Contributors' Charter since December 2014.

I have cut a ticket (0084459319) to look onto what is going on here, assess the policy and take appropriate action. We'll get back to you next week.

Best,
Tom

I last responded to the above thread in November 2015, in addition to bumping it up several months prior to that, so it should not have expired. (None of the other threads in my message history were deleted.) In the last message, I asked very clearly for this problem to either be dealt with or for my badges to be removed. My message was ignored and the entire thread was subsequently deleted and, obviously, the underlying problem has not been solved. (The staff can read deleted threads, so they can see the above messages.)

When I last looked at the Contributors' Charter I didn't see this statement, perhaps I simply overlooked it:
IMDb tracks each contributor's accuracy over time and if any contributor repeatedly submits data which is inaccurate or which violates our policies, their contributions will require increasing levels of additional proof in order to be processed. and We respectfully ask that contributors follow these policies even if they may personally disagree (in which case debate is, of course, encouraged).
This is simply not true. I have asked this question repeatedly and I have never received an answer: Why does this keep happening?

By the way, these (also as) attributes keep showing up, for example, 160617-134508-420000
160526-185750-854000, yet when I ask for a similar attribute to be added, the requests are invariably ignored, no matter how many times I resubmit the misc. correction. 160120-215712-047000 Is this a coincidence?

Around 2009, a contributor started to add a lot of badly formatted soundtrack credits to the music section. I believe that it was a she, and if so, she ultimately had her music dept. credits blocked, yet these still show up, for example: 151215-041850-942000, 151215-042445-187000 and 151215-051248-602000. https://web.archive.org/web/20100725205906/http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005271/ Why do I mention this? It's because I believe that this is one of the contributors who is also adding the attributes, given that it fits the pattern of erratic and incorrect changes to your site.

You and the other staff members are obviously familiar with the guides, but as you can see, they are simply not enforced. When I point out that one or more contributors are violating the guides, *nothing* is ever done. Why? Why is it so difficult to tell this person to stop adding (as J. X. Doe) attributes? 160617-180349-714000 Why is it so difficult to tell him to stop adding additional information in the character field, which can easily be submitted as a trivia item or to the FAQ section? 160614-122128-701000, 160610-183215-357000 and 160513-163936-116000 Why does the production text keep showing up next to the producers, and so on? 160611-184640-105000 So no, I don't believe that this is a conspiracy, but I do believe that this has been handled very poorly.

Hi there Indy,
Once again, I'm sorry to hear about this, and thank you for bringing this to our attention.

I have done some investigation into the submissions that you've sent us (thank you for being so detailed in your report): we've identified the contributor who's been making these badly formatted submissions, and I'm getting in touch with them to coach them towards not repeating this behaviour.

Hopefully we can put a quick end to these submissions once and for all.

Thanks again for reporting this.

Matt

I don't believe that this all coming from the same person. If that's the case, then why didn't someone on the staff contact the contributor years ago when I first pointed this out? I have made it clear to you in the past that this is simply not going to stop unless you flag them or block their changes. If they were contacted, then they have shown that they have no intention of stopping. How much longer is this going to continue? I asked several questions above which were not addressed, so it's pointless for me to keep asking more with regard to this problem. If this is not going to be dealt with, then remove all of my badges and remove my user name from your yearly lists as I requested.

I appreciate your help, but it's ultimately up to the staff at this point. Unfortunately, as least so far, they have chosen not to respond.

If you could please respond this message and contact the person again, it would be greatly appreciated because as you can see, they have not changed their behavior. I don't understand why you continue to accept this poorly formatted data.
