It's always a good year when I can come here and say that he's composed a good score. Interstellar clearly shows an attempt to step outside his comfort zone and try something different, even if he needs to channel a bit of Philip Glass for that.

But it worked! The music really adds texture to the movie, and it's a great standalone experience too. Favourite tracks include: "Cornfield Chase", "Stay", " and "Detach" for the last seconds when it turns into classic music.

This world is a comedy to those that think, a tragedy to those that feel.

^ But he said there would be a tune. Which I take to mean something more than ostinatos (and ones that sound too-typical of his style to be interesting). So, I feel let down, even though it's a decent score I suppose. But from now on I'll definitely remind myself to take what he says about scores he's working on with the proverbial grain of salt.

There is a kind of tune that you hear some times at the beginning in the woodwinds.
(BTW, love the orchestration! The return of the woodwind section!! And the Temple Church organ sounds marvellous.)

Nolan forcing him to lose the pounding drums and the endless string ostinati was the best decision in this production.

In the end, he won't completely re-invent himself. Stravinsky he ain't. And he doesn't need to be.
