THE DRESSER (2015)

Usually, changing the characters' ages wouldn't be enough to say that remake is necessary. THE DRESSER 2015 is an exception. The story is about an actor who has played KING LEAR over 200 times and who's now struggling to stay sane. Him being over 70 instead of over 40 makes his current state seem more tragic. Also, the more years the title character has worked for him, the more loyal he comes off as. That adds extra layers. The performances are very good. That includes Ian McKellen's, whom I would've praised if his performance had been just decent. Tom Courtenay had set the bar very low with his awful performance.

Any thoughts?

"Tom Courtenay had set the bar very low with his awful performance. "

I have yet to see the 2015 TV Movie " The Dresser" and I am sure it would be a good production with such a fine cast. However, your shot at Tom Courtenay's performance in the original 1983 film that gained him Oscar & BAFTA Nominations for Best Actor, and won him the Golden Globe for Best Actor in that film, is surely an error ? Both Albert Finney & Tom Courtenay were brilliant in the original film version of The Dresser, and if Hopkins & McKellen can deliver better, I will be happy to see it.

It's not an error. I didn't buy it.
