So what do TBWP fans think of Blair Witch?

Sorry if this is already a discussion but damned if I could find it. Anyhow, just got back from seeing this at the cinema. There were some elements I thought were ok, but only when they were copying the original's ideas. As expected they over did it and show too much.

I felt the actors were 'acting' and nothing really felt natural like it does in the original. The woods look too green and not like the original woods at all which had that beautiful brown tone. The sounds they make at night in homage to the original are way over the top and of course we get to see snippets of the 'witch' that looked suspiciously like that thing upstairs at the end of REC.

Unsurprisingly disappointed. 5/10

I liked it just fine, but phrases like "game changer" are of course ridiculous. It really brought absolutely nothing new to the genre, or the series. Overall, it was pretty unnecessary. I'm starting to think I was a little too generous with my initial rating of 7/10.

I wrote a review in the link in my sig if anyone's interested, but to sum it up I mainly enjoyed it.
It was way over-hyped and the early reviews we're obviously connected to the films production in some way, but it was still in the upper tier of found footage horrors.
I'd been following the bits and pieces of news on a BWP sequel for years and never thought it'd get off the ground, so the fact we even have one is a nice surprise.

i just watched this today as well and i was not a big fan of the original but i did end up enjoying the new one, I really think the director has a lot of talent and he really made it work. The first 50 minutes was stupid as hell, but you know how found footage movies go, last 10 minutes is when *beep* hits the fan. I don't like found footage films in general, as someone who really respects the art of film and cinematography being my favourite aspects of a film, shaky camera work just kills me. But the last 20 minutes or so was so refreshingly unnerving. relentless scares, here there and over there one after the other, it was intense fun and extremely captivating. However the first 100 jump scares was so offensive as it offers nothing to the horror factor. overall i did like it and i prefer it over the original, if i grew up with the original i would have a different opinion but i saw the 1999 one last year and the new one this year so i have a neutral opinion.

I kind of like it. I enjoy how they expanded on the time manipulation stuff that was only hinted at in the first movie. I also thought the scenes in the house were really tense and several moments like the girl being broken in half after the other girl snaps the stick figure are scenes I'll remember for a long time.

I thought they could've expanded on James's background a little more though. Show us exactly WHY he cares so much about finding his sister. I am aware the events from the first film happened 20 years ago and he looked about 27 at the very oldest. He would've been a young child and had to live with this event his entire life. The media would hound this family, kids at school would ask all sorts of questions, and his parents would never be the same again. I think they should've had a scene showing how sad and empty his parents became and so that would motivate him to go out and save Heather. He would help his family have closure and go back to how they used to be. So yes, I think they should've done a better job at showing how this dreadful event impacted his life as a whole and that would allow the viewers to feel something more for him.

But other than that minor complaint the film was pretty good and I'm satisfied with it. I found it to be worth the wait.

I was planning to see it in the theater. I had high hopes. I was looking forward to it. But from all the reports I'm hearing/reading, I am going to wait for the Blu-ray to come out and go way down in price.

It is going to be a while.

I haven't had a chance to see it.
I think it would've been a bigger success if they had never exposed it was a Blair Witch movie.
If they had kept "The Woods" title and promoted that, you get that portion of the audience that would NOT go see a Blair Witch movie.
Then you get word of mouth from opening night good or bad reviews won't detour a Blair Witch fan when they hear a new Blair Witch movie was in. And I'm high.

Know what I mean?
