Definitely Arrival. I guess The Martian was okay, but I remember hearing it described as a "banal 2001" and that was spot on for what I thought about it.

I vastly prefer Arrival. My problem with The Martian is the same problem I had with the book: I don't really care about this guy and I think his sense of humor is more annoying than endearing.

You'd feel cocky too if you were full of myself.

The Martian, by a hair. Arrival is also very good but the revelation wasn't very rewarding and nor was it emotionally fulfilling enough.


He is not coming back. He has forgotten me.

I like both but prefer Arrival
